Camel Trek the Moroccan desert
This is a brand new adventure, designed to take you on a journey through the highest and most extensive dunes in Morocco and then on to the very edges of the Sahara Desert.
On this trek, you will get to take advantage of Algeria’s recently unrestricted borders and travel through by camel enjoying stunning scenery, described by Mohamed as ‘the epitome of the desert’. Unfortunately, this is only available between October and May.
Starting from the town of Zagora, this trek takes you through the craggy Jebel Bani for four days, and then after a rest at the dunes of Chagaga, your route crosses the Draa River and loops round through the dunes to finish at a delightful 'auberge' near the small town of M'Hamid.
An experienced and qualified guide and his staff, drawn from the local population and trained locally, will supervise your trek. As with all of the treks offered by Brahim and Mohamed, you can contact them if you would like to alter any of the itineraries. Do not hesitate to contact them if you have any questions for them.
You will be welcomed at the airport, before heading to your bed and breakfast for the night.
Day Two: Marrakech - Tichka Col - Ouarzazate - Agdez - Draa Valley - Zagora - Faija
On the 2nd day you’ll get a minibus from Marrakech to Tichka Pass, the highest and most beautiful road pass in Morocco. After the pass, to the south of Morocco, as you drive to Ouarzazate and Ait Saounayou’ll get to see oases, beautiful vistas and landscapes in the process of becoming desert.
After lunch here, you will begin the long descent to the famous Valley of Draa with its 200 miles of date palms and by Agdez, you will have seen some of the most beautiful landscapes Morocco has to offer. At Zagora, a van will complete the next stretch of road for you and you will find yourself staring out over the great desert plateau Faija.
36 km from there, the group will meet the team of camel drivers, at a mountain ridge in the desert, deep in the desert evening at Jebel Ban.
Day Three: Plateau Faija - Jebel Bani - Col Umm Laachar - Oued Lemhasser - Oasis
An early start loading camels and a 30-minute walk on the plateau and mountains of Faija, before you start trekking in the desert. Then you will have an easy, but slightly rocky descent, past the black mountain and on to have lunch in a desert valley. After lunch you and the group continue on to arrive at the camp, identifiable by a small spring flowing through it. Camp will be made at the foot of Jbel Abes.
Day Four: Oued Lemhasser - Chegaga
When you get up, you’ll set out along a dry riverbed that will take you out into the desert sands. From there, you will start at a rocky plateau, just after the pass at El Abbes and head to Chegaga to make camp, taking in the deep desert's stunning views and atmosphere.
Day Five: Chegaga - Bougarn
Day 5 will take you out of the multitude of small dunes in Chegaga toward the direction of Mhamid and Oued Draa. The group will stop under the trees at Tamarist for food and then head on to the dunes of Bougarn. This is an area that has not been widely traveled, which is surprising considering how beautiful it can be. The evening will be spent sleeping under the stars.
Day Six: Bougarn - Wadi Naam
You will need to get up early to appreciate a beautiful desert morning. The small shrubs, small dunes, Tamarist trees and desert acacia combine to create a wonderful atmosphere as the sun rises in the east.
You and the group will then head out across the dunes and desert plain to Oued Naam to camp for the night.
Day Seven: Oued Naam - Mhamid - Marrakech
This is your last day of your trip in the desert. You and the group will head to Mhamid, where you can have a shower, remove all traces of sand and take a well-earned rest before returning to Marrakech, just after lunch.
Day Eight: Marrakech
You can spend your last day as you please. You could explore more of Morocco or even the Atlas Mountains. Contact Brahim and Mohamed for more information.

Wow... My friend and I booked the trip with Trekking In Morocco!... and was one of the most fabulous trip ever!!... not only was the scenery/ villages/gorge/Atlas amazing, we were so well looked after by Mohamed & his team at Trekking In Morocco from the very start of our trip and right up until we came back to UK!!! (beat this for total service!!!)... The planning of the trip was so well organised to include hotel / visits to various amazing places of tremendous interest and of course our superb time in the Sahara Desert and stay with the Berberes... Loved it so much and felt completely at ease with the guides who ensured we always felt happy & showed us true berberes hospitality! they are extremely professional, know their business, their countries and ... well are just perfect!!! :-) so much so that now I am hooked and thinking of going back to Morocco and do the High Altas Mountain under the guidance & great hospitality of Mohamed & Trekking in Morocco. For anyone wishing to do similar trips, I would very HIGHLY recommend them... Just thank you to you all and Top Mark!! :-)
