One of the most amazing things about visiting Morocco is that you can explore both the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert on the same trip. Both are equally viable for Brahim and Mohamed and their team.

Highlights

  • Explore the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert
  • Climb Highest peak in North Africa
  • Visit Kasbahs , Gorges
  • Spend night in Sahara Desert

A trek of this sort can take you from the city of Marrakech, through the High Atlas Mountain range before dropping down into the arid beauty of the Sahara Desert. Along the way you can explore the homelands of the Berber tribes and ascend to the peak of the highest mountain in North Africa. You'll see local settlements, Berber culture and experience the flora and fauna (including riding camels into the desert) of Morocco and the vistas of the North African countryside.

From the sand-blown dunes of Erg Chebbi to the peak of the tallest mountain in North Africa, this trekking combination is unforgettable.

Walking Treks

Camel Treks

Brahim and Mohamed are experts in combining the two. For example, their recommended combination is a combination of travelling to Erg Chebbi and making an ascent of the highest peak in North Africa.

The itinerary for this trip is outlined below.

What to expect?

Day 1: Marrakech - Imlil - Toubkal Basecamp 3208m

Pick up from where you stay in Marrakech , drive to The starting point for this trek in Imlil,in the mountains, and here you will meet your guide and supply mules. From here you'll trek for 5 hours or so towards the basecamp of toubkal Mountain at 3207m, having lunch along the way, before staying in either a refuge or a tent, depending on the conditions and season and clients choice.

Day 2: Toubkal Basecamp( Refuge) - Toubkal Ascent 4164m - Ait souka

The second day you will ascend the highest peak in Northern Africa, Mount Toubkal , which is 4167m. From the top you will be able to see whole Atlas Mountain and valleys and the desert (which you will be travelling across, on the back of a camel, several days from now), before you head down toward Imlil. 10 to 12 hours walking in total after you set off, you should be in the village, ready to stay the night in a local house.

Day 3: Ait Souka - Ait Benhaddou Kasbah- Ouarzazat- Dades valley

On day 3, you and your party will transfer to the World Heritage site at Ait Benhaddou, which has provided the scenery for over 20 films. You will pass lots of spectacular views and beautiful villages before you get to the desert, at which point the scenery will transform into riversides of oases and kasbahs. Upon your arrival at the Valley Of The Roses, a Moroccan dinner will be waiting for you in a beautiful hotel in Dades.

Day 4: Dades Gorges - Todra Gorges- Merzouga Erg Chebbbi

After your breakfast at the hotel, you and your group will transfer to the Todra Gorge, a gigantic fault line that divides the Atlas Mountains as a narrow valley peppered with Berber villages and rises to 300m. After your lunch, you will head deeper into the desert, to a tiny village called Merzouga, where you will trek overnight with the camels (you will get to sleep, do not worry!) to the beautiful Erg Chebbi dunes – the highest dunes in Morocco. You will then ride your camels for an hour and a half at sunset and sleep under the stars at a desert camp after a welcome Berber meal.

Day 5: Erg Chebbi - Marrakech

The final day will present you with wonderful views of sunrise in the desert riding camels along the big dunes to meet the driver and back all the way to Marrakech , expect to be there around 18:30.
